SUMMARY:Opening of “Drag and Push”, a joint exhibition by Augustas Bidlauskas, Linas Jusionis and Marija Šnipaitė
DESCRIPTION:On Friday 27 February at 17.30, “Drag and Push”, a joint exhibition by Augustas Bidlauskas, Linas Jusionis and Marija Šnipaitė, opens at the Exhibition Hall of the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC). In the exhibition, the artists from Vilnius transfer their usual conversations and their different creative practices into a new space, in which the relationships between the authors and the works acquire new points of contact and a different order. The exhibition runs until 29 March.\n“Drag and push” — that is how doors are opened in Latvia. That is how three friends from Vilnius prepare for an exhibition in Klaipėda. In the initial phase, ideas do not arrive but shove their way in; later, however, comes a time most precisely described by the verb “to drag”. Everything begins to resemble a convoy in which everyday life, an uneasy political backdrop and an excess of information are dragged along together, permeating the work not as a theme but as a state. In it, irony, play, persistent work and brief hedonistic gestures become a way of not seizing up and of resisting the flow of meaning.\nAll three authors appeared on the art scene at around the same time; they constantly follow and reflect on one another’s work and stay in touch, and “Drag and Push” is their first joint exhibition. Three different media, three characters, but one shared movement.\nIn Augustas Bidlauskas’s prints the movement is slow and precise. The images are colourless, broken up, as if pulled out of their natural context and stopped against a white background.\nLinas Jusionis’s painting is like a training session. Everyday motifs — freshly fallen snow or snow left over from winter, the serpentine of a road worn by a bicycle, a ski-jumping tower — are depicted not as an event but as a state, arising through repetition and through the accumulation of details and fragments of memory.\nIn this exhibition, Marija Šnipaitė’s sculptural practice works through a play that only pretends to be light. With sketch-like, graceful gestures, spatial relationships are created in form and material, joining the rituals of everyday life, visual experiences and cultural references.\nWe look forward to seeing you at the exhibition opening on 27 February at 17.30 at the KCCC Exhibition Hall.\nOpening hours of the KCCC Exhibition Hall (Didžioji Vandens g. 2, Klaipėda): Wednesday–Sunday 11.00–19.00 (closed on public holidays). Photographs and video will be taken during the exhibition opening. Please note that participants may appear in photographs and video recordings of the event published in various media. Admission to the exhibitions is free during the opening; afterwards there is a charge. \n
