SUMMARY:Creative workshop LISTENING TO THE SOIL with the artist Arūnė Baronaitė
DESCRIPTION:Over two days — on Friday 29 May at 18.00 and on Saturday 30 May at 13.00 — the creative workshop “Listening to the Soil” with the artist Arūnė Baronaitė will take place at the Art Yard of the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC), Daržų g. 10, during which we will both go for a slow walk collecting soil samples and later create soil prints.\nIn soil, minerals, plants, micro-organisms, water, processes of decay and human activity all meet. It is not neutral: it accumulates the signs of use, care, abandonment, digging, displacement and transformation. What often goes unnoticed on the surface can be revealed through the colours, lines, sediments and unexpected structures of the material.\nOn the first day we will set out on a slow walk: we will observe the surroundings through our senses — the colour, texture, moisture and smell of the soil, the presence of plants, surfaces and the marks left by people. We will collect soil samples and talk about responsible collecting and about what it means to approach the earth not as a resource but as a living environment.\nOn the second day we will work with the collected samples and create soil prints. Using specially prepared paper and a light-sensitive reagent, the substances present in the soil will gradually form rings, lines, fields of colour and subtle structures. In this way unique portraits of the soil will emerge — images that are not fully created by a person, but brought out by the material itself.\nThese workshops combine art, ecology and slow exploration. What matters here is not only the final print but the whole process: walking, collecting, waiting, observing and trying to hear how the soil speaks through its own material. It is an invitation to slow down and rethink our relationship with the earth — not as a background, but as a living, sensitive system that preserves stories.\nThe workshops are intended for those who want to experience creative work through material, to explore their surroundings with a more sensitive eye and to see how soil can leave an image of itself.\nThe two days:\nDay I — a slow walk and sample collecting\nObserving the site, collecting soil samples, a conversation about responsible collecting, the traces of human activity and soil as a living archive.\nDay II — creating soil prints\nWorking with the collected samples, the process of soil chromatography, observing how the prints form, and a discussion of the soil portraits created.\nTickets are sold by Bilietai.lt; you will find the ticket link here ( https://www.bilietai.lt/renginiai/4EUW5W4FUK/kurybines-dirbtuves-isiklausant-i-dirva-su-menininke-arune-baronaite ). \nPlease note that participants may appear in photographs and video recordings of the event published in various media. \n
