SUMMARY:Launch of the fourth issue of “Kultūrpolis” magazine
DESCRIPTION:“Kultūrpolis” — a magazine, an editorial team, a base, a website, a community: all these words fit this already familiar and very local Klaipėda cultural phenomenon. Radically renewed in 2025, on 21 July at 18.00 this year, at the port bar “Herkus Kantas”, “Kultūrpolis” presents the fourth issue of the magazine and invites you to set off on a cruise together.\nOver the year “Kultūrpolis” has become an important space for texts, conversations and ideas born in Klaipėda or returning to it from other shores. The fourth issue continues in this direction, inviting readers to see a cruise not as a tourist route but as a way of thinking about movement, waiting, encounters and a city that has long lived between water and land.\n“Until now the magazine has lived exclusively within the boundaries of Klaipėda; this time it also travels to Pagėgiai, Palanga, Nida and Šilalė — and there is no shortage of Klaipėda stories in it either,” says the magazine’s editor Juta Kiudė. The issue gathers accounts of the element of water, of life on the shore, at sea and beyond. For some, the cruise carried them to a new home; for others it is the very voice of the heart. And, of course, there are the people who create a space you want to return to.\nŽana Jegorova, acting head of the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC), says that “none of these [summer cruise] pleasures, adventures or poetic encounters with oneself would exist without the smooth work of the crew”.\nIndeed, most of the “Kultūrpolis” team — editor Juta Kiudė, photographers Kęstutis and Agnė Meliauskai, graphic designers Vaida Grybinaitė and Morta Žukauskaitė — have worked on the magazine since the very first issue.\nAs Liudas Andrikis, the former head of the KCCC who gave the magazine the green light, puts it: “we are moving at a steady speed, knowing that once a new issue arrives, another will follow, and there will be one more chance to stop at a cultural stop.”\nFrom this issue on, in order to nurture and retain precisely this team of professional authors, photographers and editors, there is a change: “Kultūrpolis” becomes a paid publication. This marks a new stage for the magazine and makes it possible to continue publishing quality, independent cultural content consistently. Each issue becomes not only something to read but also a collector’s object. The price of an issue is EUR 3.50.\nThe magazine is published once a season, four times a year. It stands out for the variety of its texts, among them journalism, essays, interviews with well-known people from Klaipėda, and articles about the city’s cultural life. It is one of the few initiatives that opens the door to new discussions about what matters here and now to everyone in Klaipėda.\nPrepared by the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC).\n
