Water, Light, and (T/P)ower

The exhibition and creative workshop “Water, Light, and (T/P)ower” curated by illustrators Ieva Babilaitė and Rasa Jančiauskaitė invite us to reflect on our relationship with the key symbols of the seaside: the lighthouse and the sea. By interpreting these images of the port city’s life in a metaphorical way, the artists encourage visitors to discover their own unique relationship with the symbolism of light, water, and the beacon.

During the project, Ieva Babilaitė and Rasa Jančiauskaitė held a personal creative session and curated a workshop for students of the Graphic Art Department at Vilnius Academy of Arts (VDA) and the Graphic Design and Visual Design programmes at the VDA Klaipėda Faculty.

The students from Vilnius took part in a session promoting associative thinking and then worked individually on their own projects. Students from Klaipėda were invited to participate in an all-day co-creative process, which included writing associations and composing postcards using the collage technique.

In this exhibition, Babilaitė and Jančiauskaitė introduce the multilayered nature of illustration, showcasing the intense creative process experienced together with Klaipėda’s young academic community. They also present the works of students from Vilnius that contemplate seaside symbolism.

Illustration is a field that requires constant transformation; each new project invites a sensitive look at the surrounding world, especially when created alongside emerging artists. However, it’s also vital to maintain a sense of humor and use your creative power to make jokes; creative paths may be complex, but they are never boring, and everyone ultimately discovers their own lighthouse.
