Creative photography workshop “Freedom, Recorded in Light” with Audronius Žemgulis (NO PLACES LEFT)

On Monday 16 February at 13.00, at the KCCC Art Yard (Daržų g. 10), marking
the Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania, the creative photography workshop “Freedom, Recorded in
Light” and a photo session with the artist Audronius Žemgulis will take place: residents of the city and
its guests will be photographed using the nineteenth-century wet collodion technique.

The wet collodion process is a historical photographic technology in which the image is formed on a
glass or metal plate using light-sensitive materials and hand-crafted methods. Every portrait becomes a
unique work of art, an unrepeatable document that helps people today to become acquainted with the historical
tradition of photography.

During the event, participants will be able to watch the whole creative process — from preparing the plate
to the appearance of the final image. This is not only a photo session but also a living encounter with the
nineteenth-century craft of photography, which demands patience, precision and attentiveness to light.

The author of the project seeks to use this historical technique as a means of bringing out the meaning of
the Day of the Restoration of the State. The portraits created to mark 16 February become a
symbolic testimony of freedom, memory and personal history.
