Creative workshop “Living Structures: Natural Stamps and Printing Experiments”

On 10 April at 17.00, during the Art and Culture Fair, the creative workshop “Living Structures: Natural Stamps and Printing Experiments” with the artist and biotechnologist Arūnė Baronaitė will take place at the Art Yard of the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC), Daržų g. 10.

What if an image arises not from the human hand but from the memory of the material?

These workshops invite us to rethink the idea of printmaking — printmaking not as a technique for creating an image, but as a relationship with a material that is itself able to generate form. Starting from a posthumanist approach, the human being here is not the sole creator: the printing process becomes a collaboration with organic structures.

We will work with found materials: tree bark, fragments of soil, plants and other surfaces in which the processes of time, decay and life are already inscribed. These structures — often unnoticed — act as archives of a kind: tunnels carved out by insects, the trajectories of roots, the traces of microbial activity.

During printing, these traces will be transferred onto paper through direct contact and pressure. Unexpected patterns and forms will emerge — images that are not “created”, but arise from the working of the material itself.

These are workshops about:

– slow observation
– listening to material
– chance and process
– translating the marks left by nature into an image

What matters most here is not control over the result, but the ability to notice how the material creates the drawing by itself.
