Creative workshop “Under the Fern Flower” with the photographer Audronius Žemgulis

On Saturday 27 June at 13.00, the creative workshop “Under the Fern Flower” with the photographic artist Audronius Žemgulis (Takas Kopose) will take place at the Art Yard of the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC), Daržų g. 10, during which we will become part of nineteenth-century photography.

At the end of June, summer reaches its maturity. The meadows smell of herbs, the evenings are long reluctant to give way to night, and the mysteries of Midsummer still hover in the air. It is said that the fern flower blooms only on the shortest night of the year and opens only to those who know how to search. During the creative photography workshop we will search not for the magical flower, but for the light hidden in a person’s face, gaze and silence.

We will photograph using one of the oldest techniques in the world, wet collodion: we will create portraits in which summer light, the beauty of wild herbs and the slow birth of a photograph on glass come together. It will be a time to pause beneath the sky of a fast-flying summer, to listen to nature and to become part of the magic of early photography.

Audronius Žemgulis is a Klaipėda-based photographic artist who has revived nineteenth-century photography and the wet collodion technique in Lithuania. Read more about this technique and an interview with A. Žemgulis here.
