Lecture and session “A Lichen Lesson” with resident artist Aistė Ambrazevičiūtė

On Thursday 23 July at 12.00, the Exhibition Hall of the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC) hosts the lecture and educational session “A Lichen Lesson” with KCCC artist-in-residence Aistė Ambrazevičiūtė, digital artist and experimental architect.

Aistė’s artistic research explores the visual language of lichens and other organisms of the forest ecosystem. In the lecture the artist will present her creative methodology and her study “The Grammar of Lichens”. During the session participants will get to know different species of lichen and the variety of their forms, and will creatively explore their biological properties and growing environments.

Participants will draw following tasks shown on screen, getting to know intuitively the different lichen species and the diversity of their visual language. The texture of the paper and a range of materials will merge with the abundance of lichen surfaces. Individual and group tasks will imitate the biological properties of lichens, which participants will come to understand in practice. The session ends with a shared group “lichen ecosystem”, in which every drawing — like every organism — is equal and important.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Aistė Ambrazevičiūtė is a digital artist and experimental architect living in Kaunas. Her interdisciplinary practice explores the intersection of digital and natural reality, creating innovative visualisations that reveal the complex — and often invisible — relationships between environment, form and texture. The aim of her practice is to encourage the art of observation and to visualise a reality that cannot be imagined.
