Opening of “Inventory”, a joint exhibition by Klaipėda artists at the start of their careers

On Thursday 26 February at 17.30, “Inventory”, a joint exhibition by Klaipėda artists at the start of their careers, opens at the Exhibition Hall of the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC). The exhibition runs until 29 March.

In administrative practice, an inventory marks a pause and a review; this exhibition, by contrast, seeks to take an inventory not of material but of human, creative wealth in the city: to register those who are creating now, so that their work does not go unnoticed.

In the traditional art world an exhibition works as a filter and the curator as a “gatekeeper” with the power to sort art into the fitting and the unfitting, the professional and the amateur. This exhibition deliberately renounces the institutional privilege of deciding who deserves to be seen and who does not. The exhibition is a form of resistance to structures of power.

“Inventory” is a record of the present. It is a setting in which one may argue about professionalism or conceptuality, but in which one cannot fail to agree that the creative impulse is alive. The exhibition invites us not to judge but to observe how different media and themes interact with one another, and to sense the potential of the city’s creators.
