Performance “by my house” by the actress Adolfina Kunčiūtė

On 11 April at 18.00, the performance “by my house”, performed by the actress Adolfina Kunčiūtė, will take place in the Education Zone of the Art and Culture Fair at the Exhibition Hall of the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC), Didžioji Vandens g. 2. It was created during a residency at the “ArteSumapaz” art and culture centre in Colombia.

„Such idleness recalls childhood: a reflection noticed at the edge of a spectacle lens, peeling skin because it was burnt while sunbathing by the sea, and studying how the sun changes the horizon. Here, too, everything is reminiscent of the countryside and its smell, even the colours — of a summery, unheeded way of being. I no longer feel it consciously; it is only a sense of recognition lying within, no longer surfacing but merely gliding above, unobtrusive.“ (Adolfina Kunčiūtė)

In creating this work, the author was drawn to the experience of a space becoming knowable and close, which became the starting point for the question of how certain places, not yet known, become one’s own. It is precisely for this reason that the work is closely bound up with A. Kunčiūtė’s experience of being in another country: reflecting on her own and other residents’ experiences, on childhood memories and on their connection with the present space, the actress created images that speak of being here and now, but that in fact arise from somewhere else entirely.
