Practical guided tour “What Is This Contemporary Art?”

On Sunday 8 February at 13.00, the practical guided tour “What Is This Contemporary Art?”, intended for adults and young people, will take place at the Exhibition Hall of the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC), together with the educator Aurelija Ženčiauskė.

“Some kind of nonsense” or “I didn’t understand a thing” — these are phrases often heard from exhibition visitors who are only just beginning their acquaintance with contemporary art. The aim of the tour “What Is This Contemporary Art?” is to awaken curiosity and to help establish a personal relationship with contemporary art.

Together we will look, think, try to feel, carry out tasks and learn not to be afraid of voicing our own opinion in a supportive environment, without pressure to answer “correctly”. In this way we will foster self-confidence in assessing works of contemporary art and in forming a personal opinion.

During the tour we will examine in more detail the works in Ana de Almeida and Leo Trotsenko’s exhibition “Lifting the Weight of Importance” and in Ivar Veermäe’s exhibition “Earth-Keepers, Wind-Lickers and Rain-Touchers”.

After the tour you will be able to explore the other exhibitions at the KCCC Exhibition Hall on your own.

The programme is intended for adults and attentive young people who wish to become acquainted with the interpretation of contemporary art.

Duration: 1–1.30 hours

Price: free of charge, but an exhibition ticket must be purchased at the Exhibition Hall box office (discounts apply).

Registration is required. You can find the registration form here.
