Simona Agota Martinkus’s art installation WHITE. AND THEN SALAD
On 10–11 April, during the Art and Culture Fair at the Exhibition Hall of the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC), Didžioji Vandens g. 2, it will be possible to see Simona Agota Martinkus’s installation “White. And then salad”.
Simona Agota Martinkus is an interdisciplinary artist. A jeweller, an artist of contemporary conceptual stained glass and glass, an educator, a set designer, an exhibition curator and coordinator, but first and foremost a human being. A person to whom traditions, their fostering and their transmission matter. She describes her work as an experiment with her surroundings, with the viewer and with herself. In creative spaces she invites people to play and to observe, sometimes to sink nostalgically into memories, and at times, by provoking the viewer, she leads them to feel and to live through kilometres of emotion.
WHITE. AND THEN SALAD
A therapeutic fluxus installation.
FLUXUS (Lat. flux — flowing, change) is an international interdisciplinary avant-garde art movement that emerged in the 1960s, founded by the artist of Lithuanian origin George Maciunas. The movement joined art with life, used humour, chance and the “do it yourself” (DIY) principle, and its main aim was to resist elitist, commercial art.
This work sells nothing and sells out to no one; in it you can not only be, but linger. It may be observed that the phenomenon of white salad appears especially in every Lithuanian family during the festive season. This time Simona invites us to see WHITE SALAD not only on the table, at relatives’ houses, but to discover this “heritage” in other forms and spaces as well.
“My late grandmother used to say that the best things in life are pakavoti (Samogitian dialect for ‘hidden away’). So if you want to find this installation, you will have to look for it carefully,” says Simona.
