Guided tour of “Western Winds ’26 / Frequency” with Ignas Kazakevičius

On Thursday 23 July at 17.30, the Exhibition Hall of the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC) at Didžioji Vandens g. 2 hosts a guided tour of the exhibition “Western Winds ’26 / Frequency” with the art critic Ignas Kazakevičius.

During the tour you will learn how the idea of “Western Winds” was born almost two decades ago, how the exhibition has changed, and why it is regarded today as the most important survey of professional art in western Lithuania.

This year’s “Western Winds” invites you to see the exhibition not as a collection of individual works but as a kind of archipelago of art — a space where different generations, artistic attitudes and creative directions meet. Some artists speak with restraint, others expressively; some explore material, others the idea — yet it is precisely the whole formed by these different voices that creates a living panorama of the region’s art.

During the tour you will not only get to know the works but also hear the stories of how they came about, the contexts of the artists’ practice, the architectural decisions behind the display, and why some works become landmarks of the exhibition while others serve as important accents in the shared narrative.

This is a chance to see the exhibition not only as a set of works but as a living map of the artistic process in western Lithuania, and to discover stories that often go unnoticed when looking at the works on your own.

Ignas Kazakevičius has been a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association since 2001. He works in the cultural field as a curator and producer of art and cultural events and creative-industry projects, and as an expert on artistic processes. He has written more than 300 critical, analytical and review articles on art, culture and other subjects.
