M-12 Swing bridge, Žvejų g. 22
The historic swing bridge in the Castle Harbour crosses the canal connecting the Danė River with the defensive moat (fosse) of Klaipėda Castle. It is the only bridge in Lithuania opened by human power. When it is closed — that is, when the bridge can be crossed — Konstantinas Bogdanas’s conceptual text work is invisible, both literally and figuratively. Yet in its full form this work exists only when it is invisible. When the bridge is opened to let boats out of and into the harbour, one part of the work can be seen from one bank of the canal and the other from the opposite bank, but both parts cannot be seen at once, because the bridge is then not there. In summer the bridge is opened every hour, and in autumn, as the weather worsens, less and less often, so the chance to see this work gradually fades — although it cannot really be seen anyway, because it is invisible.

Konstantinas Bogdanas creates artistic projects — objects, installations, performances, photographs and more — united by strategies characteristic of conceptual art. Language is an especially important medium for him — text and context. Using the contrast between minimalist expression and depth of content, and often working through negation, the recording of absurd situations, paradox and a demand for inner decision from the viewer, Bogdanas questions such abstract concepts as art, identity, perception and self-awareness (based on: Monika Krikštopaitytė, NGA Art Information Centre).
